Optimal Control of Polymer Flooding for High Temperature and High Salinity Reservoir

چکیده
Polymer flooding is one of the most important enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies for high temperature and high salinity reservoir. In this paper, an optimal control model of distributed parameter systems (DPS) for polymer injection strategies is established, which involves the performance index as maximum of the profit, the governing equations as the fluid flow equations of polymer flooding in high temperature and high salinity reservoir, and some inequality constraints as polymer concentration and injection amount limitation. The optimal control model is discretized by full implicit finite difference method. To cope with the discrete optimal control problem (OCP), the necessary conditions for optimality are obtained through application of the calculus of variations and Pontryagin’s discrete maximum principle. A gradient method is proposed for the computation of optimal injection strategies. The numerical results of an example illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Formulation Development of High Strength Gel System and Evaluation on Profile Control Performance for High Salinity and Low Permeability Fractured Reservoir
For the large pores and cracks of reservoirs with low temperatures, high salinity, and low permeability, a new type of high strength gel ABP system is developed in this paper. The defects of conventional gels such as weak gel strength, no gelling, and easy dehydration are overcome under the conditions of low temperature and high salinity. The temperature and salt resistance, plugging characteri...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of Water Flooding Optimization by Dynamic Optimization
This study concerns the scope to improve water flooding in heterogeneous reservoirs. We used an existing, in-house developed, optimization program consisting of a reservoir simulator in combination with an adjoint-based optimal control algorithm. In particular we aimed to examine the scope for optimization in a two-dimensional horizontal reservoir containing a single high permeable streak, ...
متن کاملThe Performance Evaluation of Viscous-Modified Surfactant Water Flooding in Heavy Oil Reservoirs at Varying Salinity of Injected Polymer-Contained Surfactant Solution
This study examines the effects of change in the concentrations of monovalent and divalent ions in the polymer-contained surfactant solution on the macroscopic behavior of viscous-modified surfactant waterflooding in heavy oil reservoirs. Salts that are used in this set of floods were sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, and calcium chloride. The results indicate that four different ranges ...

In this study, simulation of low salinity polymer flooding in the core scale is investigated using Eclipse-100 simulator. For this purpose, two sets of data are used. The first set of data were adopted from the results of experimental studies conducted at the University of Bergen, performed using Berea sandstone and intermediate oil. The second data set, related to sand pack and heavy oil syste...
متن کاملSalinity Effect on the Surfactant Critical Micelle Concentration through Surface Tension Measurement
One of the tertiary methods for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is the injection of chemicals into oil reservoirs, and surface active agents (surfactants) are among the most used chemicals. Surfactants lead to increased oil production by decreasing interfacial tension (IFT) between oil and the injected water and to the wettability alteration of the oil reservoir rock. Since surfactants are predomin...
